About Us
about our urological clinic
On one hand, Ravenna (Romagnol: Ravêna) is an ancient city south of Venice along the Eastern Italian coast. It is the capital city of the Province of Ravenna in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, and it is particularly well known for its 1,500-year-old churches, decorated with best-in-the-West Byzantine mosaics, and aptly described as a symphony of colour by Dante in his Divine Comedy.
The name Ravenna in our clinic originated from two contrasting visual symbols of our mission.
Known in Roman times as Classe, the city was an imperial port for the large naval fleet. In A.D. 540, the Byzantine emperor Justinian turned Ravenna into the westernmost pillar of the Byzantine Empire. A pinnacle of civilization in that age, Ravenna was a light in Europe's Dark Ages and a symbol of warm hospitality.
On the other hand, Ravenna is also a quiet neighborhood in Seattle, Washington USA, overlooking Lake Washington and the North Cascade mountain range. This neighbor was coincidentally named after Ravenna, Italy. Many of the neighborhood's residents are graduate students and professors at the University of Washington, with one of the main neighborhood roads, Ravenna Boulevard, commonly referred to as "Professors' Row" located near University Village.
Our founding urologist, Dr Sim, trained at the University of Washington Medical Center and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, which are amongst the top ten cancer centers in the United States with one of the largest federal research funding for medical research.
So Ravenna Urology Clinic is at once a symbol of rich culture of tradition and hospitality and an icon of cutting edge medical science and urology treatment.
