Education & Training
Dr Sim is a senior consultant urologist at Gleneagles Medical Centre, Singapore. He is the current president, Singapore Urological Association and the past Chairman, Chapter of Urologists, College of Surgeons Singapore. He is an adjunct assistant professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. Prior to his current practice, Dr Sim was Director of Urologic Oncology at Singapore General Hospital, and Programme Director for the Singhealth Urology residency programme.
He graduated from National University of Singapore School of Medicine in 1994 and completed his general surgery and urology training at Singapore General Hospital. He subsequently completed a 2-year sub-specialty training under the Society of Urologic Oncology fellowship at University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in USA under the mentorship of Professors Paul H. Lange, Daniel W. Lin and William J. Ellis. He attained certification in robotic, laparoscopic surgery and cancer surgery, and is a gazetted transplant surgeon. He was a member of the pioneering team who set up the first robotic urologic surgery programme in Asia in 2002.

Surgical Experience
Dr Sim treats a wide variety of general urology conditions, including benign prostate enlargement, urinary stone disease, urinary incontinence, male subfertility, pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction, ureteric and urethral strictures (narrowing of the urinary passages) using minimally invasive endoscopic, laparoscopic and robotic techniques.
Dr Sim is recognised by his peers to be an expert in genito-urinary cancer surgery. He is conversant with open, laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgical approaches to cancer. Prior to private practice, he was the main surgeon in SGH who performed radical cystectomy, ileal conduit and ileal neobladder creation and was involved in laparoscopic adrenal and kidney surgery since 2001.
He was a key member of the original surgical team that started robotic radical prostatectomy revolution for early prostate cancer in Asia in 2002. He is certified by Intuitive Surgical Inc to handle the robotic surgical system in Sunnyvale California, USA. In 2007, he introduced ultrasound guided peri-prostatic anaesthesia to minimise discomfort in men undergoing prostate biopsies.
In 2009, he introduced robot-assisted partial nephrectomy for small kidney cancers in Singapore. In 2011, robot-assisted radical cystectomy was introduced. In 2016, he helped set up the Uronav MRI-US fusion targeted prostate biopsy programme for suspected prostate cancer. In 2018, he started green-light laser TURP.

Dr Sim is the current president, Singapore Urological Association and the past Chairman, Chapter of Urologists, College of Surgeons Singapore and the past Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Society of Urologic Oncology. He sits on the medical board of Gleneagles Hospital and chairs its Continuing Medical Education committee.
He is a key opinion leader, providing advice to other colleagues, and is frequently called upon to assist in complex urologic surgeries.
He is an advisory member of the Asian Society of Robotic Surgery. He is an active member of both the Singapore and American Urological Associations and the Society of Urologic Oncology (Chicago, Illinois, USA). He was the organising chairman for Singapore Urological Association (SUA) Live Surgery workshop in 2008, Advances in Urology symposium in 2008, Robotic Masterclass Workshop in 2010, Annual Scientific Meeting in 2013 and its Scientific Chairman in 2011. Dr Sim was the chairman of the Singapore Prostate cancer management guidelines committee in 2012 and sits on the Asian advisory panel for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Prostate cancer guidelines.
He was a member of the Ministry of Health prostate cancer screening guidelines committee in 2008. He was also a panel member for the kidney cancer management guidelines at the Asian Oncology Summit in 2012. He has been invited as a speaker in Urology at several conferences in Southeast Asia, China and USA, and has mentored several generations of local urologists and overseas clinical fellows. Prior to the current practice, Dr Sim was the Director of Urologic Oncology at Singapore General Hospital and Director of Clinical database & outcomes research in Singhealth.
